Interior Designer / Project Developer

JOB DESCRIPTION

Position Summary

At McLennan, our Interior Designers carry the title of Project Developer.

An effective Project Developer is a creative, detail-oriented problem-solver who is skilled at connecting with clients, defining the scope and budget of each remodeling project, and delivering complete specifications to the Production team in preparation for a smooth construction process.

She/he is:

  • an excellent communicator who warmly and professionally interacts with people in all communication formats (face-to-face, on the phone, virtually, and through digital means)
  • skilled at organizing information and managing personal productivity
  • goal-oriented; able to identify next steps and generate momentum toward a desired outcome
  • a people person who genuinely cares about and enjoys engaging with clients, team members, and trade partners

  • continuously learning and exploring trends in design, architecture, and construction technology

Work Hours & Location

This is a full-time position averaging approximately 38-42 hours/week. Work hours are primarily between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., Monday-Friday.

Work is to be performed both at our office, located at 780 Eden Rd., Lancaster, PA, and on location at client homes and trade partner showrooms. Once fully onboarded, some remote work hours may be acceptable if desired.

Key Responsibilities

Sales & Marketing

The Project Developer is an integral part of the Sales team, responsible for contributing to team goals through individual and shared efforts.

  • Attend and participate in sales meetings with the Project Consultant as needed.
  • Keep assigned projects updated in CRM and project management software.
  • Measure success against established sales revenue and close ratio targets, and work as a team with your department to meet these goals.
  • Take ownership of sales meetings when the Project Consultant is unavailable due to illness or travel.
  • Contribute to content creation for sales and marketing resources at the request and guidance of the Marketing Coordinator.

Client & Project Management

The Project Developer is a creator and liaison of information that must be organized, recorded, and communicated to the relevant parties for each remodeling project. This is an integral part of delivering an exceptional client experience and ensuring that desirable projects convert successfully from Project Development to Production.

  • Assess and document clients’ needs and pain points to ensure design priorities are on target.
  • Set clear and realistic expectations by respectfully guiding clients through the Project Development process.
  • Proactively schedule meetings and activities to uphold the Project Development schedule.
  • Meet with clients to review design and selections options, and attend showroom appointments with clients.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of meetings and project files in the company database.

Design, Scope, & Budget Development

The Project Developer is responsible for the aesthetic and functional design of each project, and for ensuring every detail is translated into a complete scope of work and budget to provide clarity for the client and the team.

  • Create construction drawings and 3D renderings, and/or coordinate the development of these documents with designers, architects, and engineers.
  • Work with suppliers and trade partners to ensure clarity of scope of work.
  • Define the scope of work for each assigned project in sufficient detail to provide a clear stopping point to contracted scope.
  • Track and document all relevant communication and selection details during the Project Development process.
  • Create and revise project budgets paired with clearly defined scopes of work and selection specifications.

Pre-Production & Production Support

The Project Developer is pivotal to an effective handoff to the Production, and works closely with team members to address questions and adjustments during construction.

  • Ensure selections materials are ordered according to agreed upon specifications and in accordance with the project schedule.
  • Attend handoff meetings to seamlessly move the project from Project Development to Production.
  • Provide support to the Production team as needed in answering questions and consulting with the client on change orders.
  • Engage in internal debrief meetings post-construction to review wins and areas for improvement on each project.

Requirements

Education & Experience

  • Degree in Interior Design or related field, or certification from the NKBA or NCIDQ
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in residential interior design or related field
  • Understanding of local building codes as they relate to residential remodeling
  • Able to take accurate measurements and create drawings and renderings for client visualization and production specifications

Communication

  • Friendly and professional phone skills
  • Articulate; able to communicate information in a clear, organized, logical manner
  • Above average spelling and grammatical skills
  • Able to infuse written and verbal communication with warmth and personality, while maintaining professionalism

Technology & Software

  • Able to accurately build 3D renderings in a timely manner (structural and cosmetic layout concepts)
  • Proficient in Chief Architect or comparable CAD program
  • Proficient in Google Apps and/or MS Office Suite
  • Basic understanding of spreadsheets, working with PDFs, downloading and saving files.
  • Excellent typing skills
  • Computer savvy and comfortable learning new software.

General

  • Active driver's license, safe driving record, and reliable transportation
  • Physically able to complete the tasks required of the position, including navigating stairs, uneven surfaces, and tight spaces in and around clients’ homes
  • Available for communication between 8:00am and 5:00pm Monday-Friday
  • Available for off hours client meetings 2x per week
  • Willing to complete at least 16 hours of continuing education annually

Not Required (But Nice to Have)

  • Knowledge of Apple operating systems (Mac OS, IOS)
  • Familiarity with CRM and/or project management software such as Jobtread, CoConstruct, or Buildertrend
  • Sandler sales training
