A Modern Take on A Retro Design
The style of this home and most of it's rooms is very mid-century modern. However, that was not true for the kitchen. Jana and Matt love the style of their house and wanted the kitchen to match. They no longer felt any joy or excitement when they were in their kitchen. It was time to create a kitchen that evoked a special feeling.
Project Goals
-
Bring the kitchen in line with the home’s mid-century modern style
-
Improve storage and functionality for a busy family household
-
Create a space that feels warm, inviting, and visually unique
The Challenge
What started as a simple cabinet refresh quickly revealed deeper limitations. The existing kitchen lacked the storage, functionality, and cohesive style needed to achieve the homeowners’ vision. While the layout remained fixed, the challenge was to create a meaningful transformation within those constraints.
The Solution
Through a thoughtful redesign, the kitchen was transformed without altering the footprint. Tall cabinetry with pull-out storage maximized functionality, while floating shelves added balance and character. Mid-century elements like flat-panel cabinets, warm wood tones, and a bold green textured backsplash brought the design to life. Unique features, like cork flooring and integrated toe-kick heating, further enhanced comfort and usability, resulting in a space that is both highly functional and full of personality.
