Everyone wants the same thing when planning a remodel: exceptional quality, a quick turnaround, and a great price. Unfortunately, those three things rarely exist together. Understanding why can help you make a more confident remodeling decision.
Imagine you could choose all three:
Sounds great, doesn't it?
Unfortunately, remodeling doesn't work that way.
The challenge is that every remodeling company has to make choices about where they invest their time, people, and resources.
After more than 20 years of remodeling homes, we've found one principle consistently holds true:
You can usually prioritize two of these three things, but rarely all three.

None of these approaches are inherently right or wrong.
The important thing is understanding the tradeoffs before deciding which priorities matter most to you.
When a remodeling company prioritizes quality while keeping projects organized and moving efficiently, the investment is often higher.
Why?
Because quality doesn't happen by accident.
And quality isn't just about the finished product. While craftsmanship and materials are certainly important, we believe quality extends to every part of the remodeling experience, from the planning that happens before construction begins, the communication you receive throughout the project, and the care and support you experience long after the work is complete.
Delivering that level of quality requires experienced employees, thoughtful design, detailed planning before construction ever begins, dependable trade partners, quality materials, proactive communication, and dedicated project management.
Those investments cost money.
But they also help create a remodeling experience that's more predictable and a finished project homeowners can enjoy for years to come.
To achieve a lower price and a shorter timeline, companies may need to make different decisions about planning, staffing, materials, or communication.
That may look like:
Not every contractor operates this way.
But it's incredibly difficult to consistently provide the lowest price, move at the fastest pace, and deliver exceptional quality all at the same time.
Some remodeling companies focus on delivering excellent craftsmanship while keeping costs lower.
The tradeoff is often time.
Think about going out to dinner. Most of us don't mind waiting a little longer for a great meal. But if you're still sitting there an hour later with hungry kids and no food in sight, the wait starts to change the entire experience.
Home remodeling works much the same way.
A slightly longer timeline isn't necessarily a problem. But when schedules continue to stretch, delays become frequent, or crews are constantly pulled between multiple jobs, time becomes more than a scheduling issue—it begins to affect your daily life and your overall remodeling experience.
Projects may start later.
Schedules may stretch.
Crews may move between multiple jobs.
Material delays can have a larger impact.
The finished product may still be beautiful, but homeowners often spend much longer living through the remodeling process than they originally expected.
A longer timeline also comes with hidden costs that don't always appear in the proposal: more meals away from home because the kitchen is unavailable, more schedule adjustments, more time living around construction, and more disruption to family routines.
Those costs may never show up on an estimate, but they still affect the overall value of the project.
We often say we're remodeling homes.
But the truth is, we're serving families.
Every decision we make, from the materials we recommend to the people we hire and the way we communicate, is guided by one simple question:
"If this were our home, how would we want to be treated?"
That philosophy shapes everything we do.
When it comes to the balance between quality, timeliness, and price, we've intentionally chosen to prioritize quality and timeliness.
Now, when we say timeliness, we don't mean rushing through construction.
We mean respecting your time by planning thoroughly, communicating proactively, responding quickly, solving problems promptly, and keeping your project moving according to the schedule we've committed to.
Sometimes that actually means spending more time before construction begins.
Our design and project development process is often longer than other contractors', and that's intentional.
We believe investing more time upfront leads to better decisions, more accurate expectations, fewer surprises, and a smoother construction experience.
That means:
Our goal isn't simply to finish first.
Our goal is to finish well.
Could we shorten our process?
Probably.
Could we lower our prices by investing less in planning, communication, or quality?
Probably.
But after more than two decades in business, we've learned that homeowners don't just remember the day their project was finished.
They remember how they were treated along the way.
That's why we've chosen to invest in quality and timeliness. Because we believe they lead to a better remodeling experience and a better long-term result.
Absolutely.
Remodeling is one of the largest investments most families will ever make in their home, and every dollar matters.
Our goal isn't to encourage homeowners to spend more than they need to. It's to help them invest wisely by balancing quality, timeliness, and price in a way that best fits their goals.
At McLennan Contracting, we don't believe success is measured by having the lowest proposal.
We believe success is measured by how well the finished project meets your family's needs.
That's why we start with understanding your goals, not just your budget.
From there, we build a project around thoughtful planning, quality craftsmanship, honest communication, and realistic expectations.
Those choices don't always produce the lowest price.
But we believe they lead to something far more valuable:
A remodeling experience you can enjoy.
A finished home that serves your family well.
And the confidence that you made the right investment.
We often say we're remodeling homes.
But the truth is, we're serving families.
That's why we've chosen to prioritize quality and timeliness.
Because when we make decisions, we ask ourselves one simple question:
If this were our own home, how would we want to be treated?
