Timeless Style, Thoughtful Function
This kitchen already had plenty worth keeping, but the layout wasn’t working as well as it could for everyday life. A too-small island, limited storage, and an awkward flow made the space feel less functional than Danielle and Jordan wanted. Rather than starting over, we focused on thoughtful updates that would give them more room to gather, better organization, and a kitchen that worked more naturally for life as a couple.
Project Goals
-
Enlarge the island to create a comfortable everyday dining area
-
Improve kitchen storage and organization
-
Create better flow around the island and sink area
-
Update the countertops while preserving the existing backsplash
The Challenge
Danielle and Jordan knew where their existing kitchen was falling short, but they also had clear priorities for what they wanted to keep—and a budget that required thoughtful decision-making. The island and sink area felt too small, and the overall flow didn’t suit their lifestyle. At the same time, they wanted to replace the countertops without disturbing the existing backsplash, adding another layer of complexity to the project.
The Solution
Instead of changing everything, we concentrated the investment where it would make the biggest difference. The island was extended to provide more room for sit-down meals, while relocating the microwave and adding pull-out trash storage helped make better use of the cabinetry. We also vented the range hood to the exterior and selected a hood outside our typical cabinetry line to achieve the look and function they wanted while staying within budget. Careful planning allowed us to replace the countertops while preserving the backsplash the homeowners wanted to keep—resulting in a kitchen that feels more spacious, organized, and comfortable for everyday life.
