A Modern Take on Functionality and Flow
This home remodel began with a vision to turn an outdated, compartmentalized layout into a cohesive and functional living space that better suited the homeowners’ lifestyle. Originally, the home featured a series of closed-off rooms and a cluttered kitchen layout, complete with multiple staircases leading to different levels. Dave and Stefanie dreamed of an open, flowing design that would bring more light, space, and usability to their everyday lives.
Project Goals
-
Open up the layout to create better flow and connection between key living spaces
-
Modernize the home while preserving its original character and charm
-
Improve everyday functionality with a more intentional, user-friendly design
The Challenge
The home’s original layout felt closed off and inefficient, with multiple staircases and separated rooms that disrupted flow and made the space feel cluttered. The kitchen, in particular, lacked organization and usability, and the overall layout didn’t support how the homeowners wanted to live day to day. The challenge was to rethink the entire main living area—balancing structural changes with the goal of maintaining the home’s character.
The Solution
By reimagining the floor plan, the home was transformed into a cohesive, open environment that feels both functional and inviting. Walls were removed to connect the kitchen, dining, and living areas, while relocated staircases improved circulation and reduced visual clutter. Thoughtful design details—from custom cabinetry and built-ins to updated finishes and lighting—bring warmth and consistency throughout the space. The result is a home that blends modern functionality with timeless character, supporting everyday living in a way the original layout never could.
